After @crossingthethreshold posted a photo of a road it made me think of this favourite zebra crossing I saw in Redondela, Galicia, Spain.
This thing is a stoat. An angry stoat, trapped in a plastic bucket behind wire. Unfortunately, as I was on my own, it escaped. This morning it killed 2 more quail. The survivors are now in max security cages. (One-handed snapshot while holding a bucket tight against wire.)

I’ve really enjoyed watching Seal Team and am glad to see it’s been renewed for a third season. I like that they explore the relationships of team members with others such as family, and how folks grow and develop.
On the hunt for quail
When I checked the quail today one was dead — Felicia, the great mother who hatched the babies this year. Judging by the mutilated corpse this wasn’t pecking by the others, but presumably a rat or stoat that slid into the run and out again. I buried her and set about to move the rest to a new spot. While doing that, Glee escaped. I hunted her with success and then another white one escaped and hid really well in some scrub. I hunted for ages, gave up, and had one last try. Success! Not my best day for quail!
While I was hunting for an escaped quail an Eastern Rosella made a brief appearance to laugh at me then flew off. Still hunting the escapee. 😱

Green tea at the Levin Mall cafe was mediocre. The teapot & cup combo was rather charming though.

My favourite sci-fi author’s Kickstarter has already reached 500+% of its goal with 8 days left to go and the stretch goal rewards are amazing.

Wellington is notorious for its steep hills. Many of those hills have paths, stairs and steps, which is apparently a niche interest for some who travel far and wide: outdoor stairs. My friend Alana has created a wonderful site Wellington Steps for connoisseurs. Alana’s Photo

Read: The Korean Way of Tea
My experience and appreciation for tea and the art and etiquette of tea truly blossomed after that experience.
Rain today as at 7 am: 0.9mm. Rain forecast for most days this week: 0.
I’m a very linear person: A to B to C. When I run training sessions that’s the kind of approach I take. Maybe it drives some people crazy? I find trainers who go: C, by the way A, 5, W, 57, kind of frustrating…
Lingthusiasm Episode 32 (33 minute audio) reveals how some languages require you to say how you know something… 🤯
languages, like Syuba, [where] indicating how you’ve come to know something is baked right into the grammar.
Beach find: this large feather, probably from a black-backed gull. Photo shows the feather resting on a 15” MacBook Pro for size.
It was Quail moving day today. I like to move them to a fresh patch every few weeks. The two runs are now near the tunnelhouse again. There’s evidence of a bit of head-pecking but everyone seems OK. Can you see all seven birds?

I haven’t had time to read any of this site yet, but anticipate much to enjoy: Rejected Princesses
this site imagines what if we made animated musicals about the women of history and myth who refused to behave.
