Jupiter and Saturn in the evening sky around Christmas: We’re About to Witness a Super-Rare Planetary Alignment Not Seen in 800 Years.
…alignment hasn’t occurred since the Middle Ages will happen again in March 2080. After that, Jupiter and Saturn won’t get as close until 2400.
I hope this Radio NZ interview video is available beyond NZ. Take 30 minutes to watch: Dolly Parton: ‘I’m proud to be an example for a strong woman’
“They had a sign saying ‘Dolly for president’ and I said ‘no thank you’. We’ve had enough boobs in the White House.
What a woman!
I spent an hour today weedeating a metre wide strip on either side of the first leg of our private lane. Hard work.

Heh, why we don’t blow stuff up with marshmallows, even though they have more energy than TNT: Dangerous Marshmallows?!:
Burning a marshmallow can release more energy than detonating an equal mass of TNT…
Thanks MinuteEarth.
The movie Netflix ☛ Joyful Noise starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton had plenty of great music. We enjoyed it.
In the film, two strong-minded women are forced to cooperate when budget cuts threaten to shut down a small-town choir.
Lingthusiasm Episode 50: Climbing the sonority mountain from A to P was particularly interesting, introducing linguistic concepts and terms I’d never heard before, such as sonority and mirroring.
“Bnick” contains English sounds, but doesn’t feel very likely as an English word.
Many thanks to @manton whose change to the Mac Micro.Blog app to ensure the New Post window doesn’t slip behind other windows now allows me to use a Keyboard Maestro macro to get selected text from a @NetNewsWire item and post it to Micro.Blog with title and URL.
I spent $10 on a 1 metre arm extender aka selfie stick and climbed the ladder. I was able to take a photo along the gutter and determine that it is not in fact full of bird party supplies. Perhaps we’ve been imagining the noises? Or perhaps they cleaned up before I came along? 🐦
I like this:
What if instead of trying to be some unassailable force of moral good in the world, each of us just tried to be a little bit better whenever we saw an opportunity? What kind of cumulative difference would that end up making?
I wish Mac Safari had a kind of ‘workspace’ concept. I have a window with a bunch of tabs re things I’m still working on. I opened a new window at the front to look at my daily checks stuff, opened by a mix of bookmarks and Keyboard Maestro. Why did some open in the other window?
I loved this cozy mystery: The Case of the Lady in the Luggage by Cheri Baker, @Cheri 📚. After reading an advance copy I said:
what a fabulous read! I loved every minute of this and ended up neglecting other tasks to read it! 😀 This is the best Ellie Tappet yet!
Give it a go!
I just watched Netflix ☛ Star Trek Next Generation S07E15 Lower Decks, on the recommendation of @macgenie . It’s interesting when shows take minor (unknown) characters and check out what their story might involve. See also Babylon 5 S05E04 A View from the Gallery. 📺
It was lovely at the beach this morning. The remnant lake in the estuary was calm and clear.

I was particularly touched yesterday to receive a very unexpected Amazon gift card from a generous person. I see several new books in the future of my new Kindle. 📚🤓
Over the last 6 weeks I’ve rewatched all of Rizzoli & Isles. It’s such a great show! I love the interactions between the characters, and there is enormous chemistry between the two leads: Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles. It’s funny too. So glad I bought this series years ago.
The other day, after the ferry from Auckland Central had arrived at Tiritiri Matangi island, I looked into the clear water beside the wharf. There were a couple of Eagle Rays just hanging out. I took a photo of one.

An interesting 14 minute video: Ace of Hearts: finding a home on the asexual spectrum. It includes terms new to me such as demisexual, panromantic and others.
… members of New Zealand’s asexual community talk about the challenges and misconceptions of identifying as ace.
I’ve had my Kindle Paperwhite since January 2013 and it’s been wonderful. I use it heaps. Lately it’s felt a bit slow though and the pages don’t always turn right. I’ve lashed out and ordered the 10th generation 2018 version Paperwhite as a pressie for myself. 📚Waiting…
