Kāpiti Island rises from the dawn mist.
This Karoro, Black-backed gull was keeping a close eye on me this morning. 🐦
I did a heap of things today that I wanted to do. Some are unfinished, and that’s fine. The sky was blue, the sun warm, the day was still. The air is clean and I listened to birds. How fabulous to be alive! 🤩
Police urge potential new pet owners to be wary following an influx of scams involving fake puppies and cryptocurrency. … potential red flags…
[the scammers] will often use colourful text, Emojis and exhibit poor grammar.

This post by @gregmoore reminded me of this day back in 2003 when Aphra 🐈, on top of the shower, was wondering if there was a yet higher place to reach.

Aotearoa New Zealand is right in the middle of a giant high today, giving us cold clear nights and warm blue sky days. And no wind! 🤩

Things fell into place today for Deb and me to eat dinner out. We visited for the first time Nanyang Flavours in Shannon, a 35 minute drive from home, where I had Nasi Goreng. It was a very large meal and extremely delicious. I have leftovers for tomorrow. 🥳
Nothing special: just a photo from when I was walking Sasha 🐶 back along the lane to home, on a perfect morning. Blue skies, warm sun, not a breath of wind, silence apart from birds.
This was such an interesting episode of Lingthusiasm: What it means for a language to be official. It’s way more complicated than I’d ever thought.
Hah! Scifi writers note:
to write a character who is… expert… Give them a deep, intense hatred of some oddly specific wow-I-did-not-even-know-that-was-a-thing-and-it-would-have-never-occurred-to-me-that-it’s-a-bad-thing thing they’ll gladly rant about.
Deb did a clean out and found an old iPhone 5. It’s so tiny! Look at it next to my iPhone 13 Pro Max.
A neighbour and I drove to Foxton today to visit the Ans Westra photo exhibition. I specially loved her photo of this young Māori girl (not named) who is clearly a warrior in the making.

Our dog groomer has come down with Shingles. Ouch! That means we need to find an alternative groomer for Sasha 🐶 who’s about due for a trim. 😒
Something I’d like is more information in the list of Micro.Bloggers I’m following (micro.blog/[name]/following) @help. Useful would be: date they last posted &/or how many posts they’ve made. I follow ~600. I recognise 50—100 names because they actually post.
Amazon have made a change I really dislike. When I look at a page of listings my eye now sees first in giant red letters a (supposed) discount amount to the left of the actual price in smaller black type. My eye sees the red, reads it as a price, I gasp (and remember costly). 😵💫
On a day where I seem to be feeling a bit off-colour I’ve really enjoyed eating some Celery soup. Really easy and quick to make, once you’ve chopped up a load of celery and potatoes. Just right today.
Tonight I made Roast cod on spiced Puy lentils — delicious. There was no cod available so I cooked a fish I’d never heard of before: Elephant Fish. Now I’m horrified to find it’s in the list of fish to avoid because of ecological concerns (set netting and bottom trawling). 😒
This month I am finally doing a chore I really have trouble getting to: selling stuff I no longer require. So far this month I’ve sold an Apple Watch, a Fujifilm zoom lens, a broken version of that same zoom lens. Today I’ve listed a 27mm lens I never use. 💪🏼
This is interesting: The streets have eyes, including the bit that says:
One of the problems is the [facial recognition] software doesn’t perform well across all ethnicities. … the software has been designed with lighter skin as the default.
