40 mm rain or so in the last couple of days (25 mm in the last 7 hours) has been enough to bring back the paddock puddle. I expect it won’t last long, but it shows groundwater levels must still be quite high.

Not surprising the rain woke me: 13.5 mm per hour is a decent fall!

A couple of days ago when I walked on the beach at dawn these folks were down floundering. Mt Ruapehu in the background.

Two people in the shallows of the sea, with a net between them. Rosy sky and a shadowy mountain in the background, a flying bird near the two figures.

I keep thinking maybe I can hear thunder — or some loud truck nearby on this public holiday. Given this sky in the southwest, I suspect it’s thunder.

Wow, big day today: I’m really in the money! 🤣

A walk today at Kitchener Park right next to Manfeild Race track near Feilding was accompanied by the roar and whine of racing cars and motorbikes. So loud. Most of the track was a dirt path, a little had interesting trees nearby, a bit was in among some lovely trees, some up to 600 years old.

Thanks to the Eastern Rosellas who alerted me that the apples on my Granny Smith tree were ripe.

This set of decals is now on the wardrobe door by my bed. From Top left, clockwise: Me and Sasha, Sasha and Oshi, Olive, Harriette. Centre: Aphra and Ares. 🐈 🐶

I pondered including my original Blue Burmese cats Arakhan (died young), Amrico, and Minhla but for various reasons didn’t.

Our neighbours are taking down some pine trees that are about 30 years old. They’re a bit unstable apparently.

I guess all the birds that use those trees are now looking for new homes…

A big gap in a row of pine trees at the top of a slope, fallen logs, road cones, someone using a leaf blower to clear the road of pine needles.

10 hours of sleep! It’s a miracle!

A thoughtful and interesting essay: Don’t fret about students using ChatGPT to cheat – AI is a bigger threat to educational equality:

Aha, plane mystery solved: Classic Fighters Omaka Airshow 2023.

Wow, I’m not any kind of vehicle nerd, but there’s an impressive lineup at the show.

That’s a worry — while I was posting my previous item another 9 planes went past in formation! Photo shows 4 of them. Has our whole airforce gone south? 😆

4 of the 9 mystery planes in formation.

I was way too slow going out to check on the unusual aircraft noise. It turned out to be 7 planes in formation! Since NZ has 11 T–6C Texan II craft, but only 4 of the other candidate I’m guessing they were Texans. They usually fly way faster though.

I remember the day back in 2002 when Ares and Aphra first discovered there was World beyond the front door. 🐈

Had my flu shot. Asked for the Covid booster too but they only do them on Fridays… Booked that one for 28 April.

This was simple to make and very tasty: Black Beans and Brown Rice. Will cook it again.

Yellow digger ona partially cleared slope with pine trees yet to be felled.

I can't exactly pinpoint where this tree felling is taking place. It may be about 700 metres to the southeast of our house. The bottom of the slope has been cleared already. I'm curious to know what vista will open up for us once all the trees are gone.
