When men won't even let women relieve themselves…
People without a safe place to go to the bathroom can die because of unsanitary conditions.
A 2016 study in India found that women who defecate in the open are twice as likely to be sexually assaulted by a stranger as those who have a toilet in their house.
An Indian woman told USAID/India, that men block the way to her community toilet, taunting and harassing women.
“They dress up as women, they get in line with us, they might touch us,” Dalal recalled Veer telling her. “Every few days someone is raped. On one side of the toilet is where we live and on the other side it’s jungle. They can pull us there.”

So sad women have to endure this:
18 year old refugee woman Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun renounced Islam, which is punishable by death in Saudi Arabia. Under the male guardianship system, a Saudi woman is required to obtain a male relative’s approval to [do pretty much anything].
We had a delicious and reasonably priced meal at Prah Ta Pang in Waikanae last night. I chose E4. Guireau Chha (Stir Fry Rice Noodle) Chicken, pork or beef with, rice noodle, bean sprout, peanuts, chilli, cabbage with egg on top. No photo as it didn’t save. 😒
We went to see Bohemian Rhapsody tonight. Initially a bit reluctant, I really enjoyed it. And, of course, the music was excellent.
A new word I learned today: enchiridion — a book containing essential information on a subject. Thanks to Micro.wiki.
What a good thing: On the websites of many New Zealand companies women can now access information about the services offered by Women’s Refuge via a web page which will leave no trace in the browser history.
I seem to be answering a lot of these challenges lately: all the squares with cars or roads or whatever. I just want to say: damn it, I don’t want to do your thing anyway. Seems to me a robot would be the only one happy with these.

Something I learned yesterday when asked to publish a community notice about a missing cat: not only can cats get asthma, but sometimes they use inhalers. 🐈

Women are routinely erased from history, but occasionally they resurface:
more evidence female monastics were not only literate, but also prolific producers and consumers of books during the Middle Ages. … a female scribe in 12th-century Bavaria … produced more than 40 books.
When I was a kid, back in the 60s, you could drive a long way and scarcely see another car. We had one short stretch like that yesterday on our drive from Whangārei to Waikawa Beach.
NZ’s population could hit 5 million by end of [2019]. … The population hit 3 million in 1973.
Hard to believe that just over 12 hours ago we were in Whangārei. The drive home was smooth, in spite of diverting via Rotorua. We were lucky that we were just leaving lunch when a fatal accident closed the road ahead of us at Putaruru.

Today we set off for home. It’s a bit over 700 Km, or 10 hours driving. Chances are we’ll stop overnight somewhere. With dogs in the car we take frequent breaks anyway.

At AH Reed park in Whangārei there is a merely 500 year old Kauri tree. There’s also an obligatory shoe cleaning station, on account of kauri dieback disease.

Yesterday at the Whangarei Kiwi House and Museum I saw an actual Brown Kiwi feeding. The need for dark and quiet meant no photos allowed. This Victorian taxidermied bird with replica real-size egg will have to do. 🐦
