Interesting article from Don Norman, 83-year-old author of the industry bible Design of Everyday Things and a former Apple VP:
The world is designed against the elderly … thoughtless, inappropriate designs. … inclusive design … helps everyone.

The outdoor module of my Netatmo weather station appeared to have come back to life. After 3 hours outdoors though it just stopped again. The new one was moved from one indoor location to another and then replaced the old one outside. It’s working fine (as it should).

For the last week the Netatmo outdoor module sat at the recommended distance failing to connect to the base station. Today the new weather station arrived. As I moved items around on the shelf the connection finally ‘took’. Now I have a redundant station. 🤖 $$
This 30 minute video had a lot of interesting stuff in it: Cybersecurity and a hacker called Alien | SciShow Talk Show

Uh oh. Open my online banking to find a pending transaction for a service I no longer need. When I moved my Love Waikawa Beach website from WordPress to Micro.Blog I forgot to cancel the Jetpack subscription. I should keep better records! Jetpack Help contacted…
Well done, The Big Bang Theory — nicely brought to a close. 👏🏼👏🏼
I was suspicious about my wind gauge as it seemed to be at odds with various other sources. Teetered atop a step ladder and fence post and determined it was rotated 180° . It’s not screwed in tight and can rotate. I suspect the birds who perch on it jiggle it on take-off.
Oshi and I had the place to ourselves last night. I washed nearly all the dog beds. Today he didn’t even wait for me to zip this one up before jumping on. He’d missed his favourite bed. Sasha’s back from the vet in better spirits too. She has to eat bland food for a few days. 🐶
Caster Semenya and the myth of testosterone: An extremely fascinating 50 minute discussion about sex, gender, identity, chromosomes, testosterone, race, ethnicity, geography, sports. Kim Hill interviews anthropologist and bioethicist Katrina Karkazis.
Today I learned the woman who wrote Mary Poppins was born and raised in Australia: P.L Travers — the girl who dreamt up Mary Poppins.
She also stood up to Walt Disney about how the movie would be done and what the character would be like. 👍 17 minute audio story.

Too Fast, Too Black, Too African: On Caster Semenya
she ran smack into the global matrices of power … for being too fast, too quick … how does it become permissible to forcibly strip an 18 year old girl in front of “experts” who will determine, for her, her own gender?
Sasha update: she’s staying at the vet’s overnight for observation with a saline drip for dehydration, and blood work. Bloods have already come back OK. Between cats & dogs, routine and special, that’s 6 vet visits in 5 weeks. The cost of older pets. 🐈 🐶 💲
It’s been a bit miserable today, what with the lack of sleep and also being a bit unwell. It’s been a worse day for Sasha though who produced messy poop while I was at a workshop all morning and then huge amounts of vomit while I was at the doctor this afternoon.
It’s nearly 4 am. I should be asleep. Instead I’ve been woken every hour or so by Sasha the dog needing to go out. I’ve cleaned up two lots of dog poop from where I haven’t got up. Given in and made a cup of tea.
With a swell of up to 2.5 metres, high tide and sunset coinciding, I biked down to the beach with my camera. These photos straight from the camera.

My Netatmo outdoor module is on the fritz. Because I’m in New Zealand I can’t buy a replacement module but have to buy a new station. Tonight, in the pouring rain, the rain gauge shows zero rainfall! What next?
