After listening to the whole of the latest Core Intuition without getting noticeably closer to home I turned back and am ensconced in the library. The road may be closed for hours yet apparently.
Second time in just a few weeks that my trip home from the supermarket takes hours. 😒 SH1 ŌHAU, MANAWATŪ-WHANGANUI - CRASH - UPDATE... - Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Central North Island | Facebook:
SCU are now on site to investigate this crash. This investigation will take several hours.
Please continue to delay your travel through the area or expect MAJOR DELAYS, as there is no detour available.
John Gruber’s turn of phrase here really made me laugh — Why Parler Is Likely to Fold:
Always seemed pretty obvious that the minds behind Parler weren’t exactly sharp knives, but it’s looking more and more like they’re on the plastic cutlery end of the spectrum.
Intriguing to find sand sculpting like this on dry sand up the beach rather than by the water.
At first I thought this was an old banana peel discarded on the beach. Then I noticed the teeth! I don’t know what the fish used to be.
hey @jean I enjoyed Voyager Revisited | Organics Are So Revolting (Episode 21) with Shelly Brisbin. I’d never noticed the first name form of address for Torres… It’s kind of you to link to my website in the show notes, but I imagine you intended to link to Shelly. 🧐
This photo should show how my MacBook Pro screen has horizontal lines where the same stuff on my iPad doesn’t. First time I’ve used Sidecar. The lines could probably be fixed but the cost worries me and this Mac is almost 5 years old. The battery needs service too.
Usually I’d be very excited about ordering a new MacBook Pro. But, I’d hoped to wait until the 15" model M1 was available, presumably ~November 2021 and this is only 13”. This has been triggered by my screen showing fine horizontal lines. It’s like looking through a flyscreen!
These two were about to get dinner and not being very co-operative. However, they’re due for a groom in a few days and I wanted a ‘before' shot. Sasha and Oshi. 🐶 They had just had ears and tails brushed.

We enjoyed the final episode of Star Trek: Discovery Season 3. Great visuals and action, satisfying story wrap-up. It’s been such a good season of this show. So pleased to see a Season 4 is planned. 🖖🏼
Interesting SciShow video — Tapputi-Belatekallim: The First Chemical Engineer:
A perfumer from Ancient Babylon named Tapputi-Belatekallim is possibly history's first recorded chemist, and some of the techniques she used are still in practice today.
Last night we went with neighbours for dinner at Longbeach Cafe in Waikanae. Then we took a short sunset stroll on the beach. The sea was so calm. Looking towards Kāpiti Island which is just offshore.

Such an interesting and practical podcast episode: Dump Your Inner Drill Sergeant:
why being a nasty drill sergeant to ourselves is less effective than being a kind coach; and … why developing self-compassion is vital to helping us achieve our new year goals.
Sasha had a vet checkup as we’ve had a few small concerns about her health. 🐶 She’s to join Oshi in taking Carprieve for arthritis and I have the exciting task of attempting to collect a urine sample. 😹 Her heart and teeth are OK. She can’t see much apart from dark and light.
Re the US riots in progress in DC right now: there are huge numbers of law enforcement there. Why don’t they start arresting the folks who are breaking the curfew?
We really enjoyed our 2 hour Whanganui River Cruise aboard the coal-fired steam-powered paddle boat Waimarie. Recommended! Watch out for soot.
Photos: skipper; sailing upriver; the wake; returning to Whanganui with the Durie Hill tower

Off for a river cruise on a paddle boat steamer in Whanganui.

I really dislike crime shows and thriller books which feature serial killers and prolonged scenes (or any scenes) of torture and cruelty. That’s why I figure it’s best to eat the head first on the Walkers Shortbread Scottie Dogs. (Headlessness not depicted.)
I say I've never been on a cruise, but … in 1963 we emigrated from England. We travelled as 5 members of only a dozen or so passengers on a cargo ship (before containers), the Port Townsville. Possibly this one.
It took ~6 weeks via the Suez Canal. I guess that was a cruise…

Excited: our big trip for 2021 is confirmed: in July a five night Rakiura (Stewart Island) cruise with 30 other passengers. Stewart Island Tours. I’ve never been on a cruise and never been to Rakiura.
