I've long hated Facebook but there were one or two valid reasons to stay on there. With those reasons more or less gone, and with a birthday coming up in a few weeks I gave myself a cheap present today and cancelled my FB account.
It's a bit like enjoying a long hot shower. 😆

If I could get all my old friends to move here, I'd quit in a heartbeat. Some have moved to bluesky, but I really hope we get a non-federated social media that people don't feel they need a computer science degree to use.

@cliffordbeshers One 'problem' with FB is that it's so easy for so many people, and it can fulfil that community role. I can't think of even one friend or acquaintance who would switch to a blog.

@gdp 😁 I've barely contributed anything for the past year or two since our local real life community really soured over a local issue that was vehemently and unpleasantly expressed on FB too. I've always been a blogger (though Twitter took over for a few years), and really only tried posting about local issues on our local group, in connection with a separate blog and newsletter I wrote for the community. It won't be a great loss — just handy to know what's going on in the community.

@Miraz I did this five years ago and haven't regretted it for a second

@ThisCJ I don't expect to have any regrets. I was a reluctant user anyway — only to learn what the local community was up to. My partner will tell me anything I really need or want to know. 😁

congrats! I really missed it for a while. Or maybe it was withdrawal. Either way I’ve felt better without it for the last couple of years

@aeryn I'm in a phase of cutting down, cutting back, removing dead wood. Feels good. 😀
