I don’t see astrophotography in my future, but provided you don’t look too closely, this is pretty much the splendid view I had of last night’s lunar eclipse. It was magical, especially how early on I could hardly see any stars, but at peak the Milky Way was resplendent. 🌕


@johnjohnston I loved how early in the night the Moon was so bright I couldn't see many stars. By totality the Milky Way was so bright and the Moon so dim. Quite something.

I am jealous, living in the city it is a long time since I’ve seen the Milky Way! On the todo list once we are out of lockdown and can move out with Glasgow.

@johnjohnston Oh, yes. Just shows I've grown used to our dark skies here. Definitely worth moving out of a city. Mind you, from here I can see the glow from the towns of Levin to the north, Ōtaki to the south and Masterton on the other side of the hills. 😒

@JohnPhilpin Well, that's my reckon. But according to the maps, Masterton is actually only about 50 Km away in a straight line.
