Wow, I thought Auckland was on the same latitude as Sydney, but it turns out it's closer to Melbourne.

Fascinating. I guess that puts me (Portland, Oregon area) at about where you are.

This is really interesting! It's amazing how much of a difference northern hemisphere vs southern hemisphere and even west coast vs east coast makes to climates. Like, seeing places that I think of as having excruciatingly cold winters on equivalent latitudes as Australian cities (like Seoul to Melbourne, or Chicago not even as far north as Hobart is south!).

@jayeless I’d never really taken in that the southern hemisphere is mainly water and the northern land (and what an enormous difference that makes). And yes, those bitter winters and stinking summers.
