Whew! Drama in our house this morning as Deb spilled half a glass of plain water on her MacBook Pro. Draining, drying, airing. That machine has been a trouble magnet. I’m trying to get her to buy a new M1 MacBook Pro. The battery life on mine is phenomenal. She’d love that! 💻

Oh no! I will say, my own experience when I accidentally spilled water on my Mac was that after draining and leaving open upside-down to dry, it ended up totally fine. So if her experience is anything like mine (and I kind of hope it is? 😆) that M1 MacBook Pro might still be a way away 😉

@jayeless I won her over and we bought an M1 for her locally this afternoon. That computer was dropped a year ago, had screen and guts replaced. We live by the sea so it's a salt-laden environment and hugely sandy / dusty. I worry about the water damage creating ongoing issues. We're drying it out and will then decide what to do with it.

hey, well done convincing her then! I've been trying to persuade Viv to upgrade from his 2011 MBA and no dice 😂 One day I will succeed…

@jayeless 2011! Wow. We just sold two MacBook Pros — a 2012 and a 2013, and I thought they were old. They sold for almost double (between them) what I thought they'd go for. One had a ding on one corner, the other's trackpad moved the cursor but wouldn't click. That sale helped. Plus the battery life on my M1 is amazing. Deb should be able to take her machine to work in Wellington for the day and leave the charger at home.
