A nice thing to learn:
Rakiura is the Maori name for Stewart Island. It translates as the Land of the Glowing Skies.
We’ll be visiting later this year. Maybe we’ll get to see the Aurora Australis?

The hotel/restaurant/bar hosted a pub trivia quiz every Sunday night, I think. I played with two Aussie/Kiwis, two Londoners, answering questions written by an American and an Irish woman. It was quite the lesson in vowel drift when someone delivered a message from a fellow named "Friday", which in Irish sounds like "Freddy". We all spoke the same language but it took forever to sort out what the name was.
Also, really good salmon in the restaurant because of the local farm.

@cliffordbeshers Ah, I see! Yes, those vowels would have been complex in that group! Deb bought fresh salmon from Stewart Island on the shopping trip we’ve just returned from. Before that I didn't know you could get salmon from that part of the world.
