Hooray! — Massive health sector overhaul explained — Aotearoa New Zealand population is ~5 million.
Our system is far too complicated … We simply do not need 20 sets of decision makers. Nor do we need 20 plans for capital investment, for IT systems, and for our workforce.

I’m so happy about this, especially not having to vote for members of DHBs. I have absolutely no expertise about what it takes to run a health system. It’s been an abdication of our elected representatives and their advisors who we literally vote in and pay to make these kind of decisions on our behalf.

This is so great. Exactly the mindset the rest of the world needs. New Zealand (perhaps even Jacinda Ardern alone?) really sets an example here (and in so many other areas)!

We’re the same size. Here’s hoping for changes in the elections come fall. And not only in that area.

@yorrike Those DHB elections were a farce. And your point about the general public not knowing was expertise was appropriate is a good one.

@ArnoldHoogerwerf The theory behind our system is sound, its execution has been abysmal for too long. I hope this shakeup will rationalise the admin and allow a greater proportion of funds to end up in service delivery.
