I always have tinnitus. It’s worse when I’m tired. When I’m stressed I don’t get back to sleep after waking in the night. That makes me tired and gives me a headache. Then the tinnitus gets worse which stresses me more. Today it all reached a crescendo. Luckily a nap helped. 🤯

A lot of the time, I don’t notice my tinnitus because background noise drowns it out. But at dead of night or first thing in the morning, when it’s really quiet, I sometimes find myself wondering how on earth I put up with it. A lot of people I’ve spoken to seem to suffer from it but it’s something you rarely hear people talk about. Thank you for bringing the subject up.

@artkavanagh Thanks. It reached crisis that day. 😒 Back to normal now. I know the trick is not to listen to it — instead to focus on other sounds, but sometimes it spirals out of control.

@toddgrotenhuis Thanks. The nap calmed things a bit. Then a proper night's sufficient sleep has returned things to normal and kind of tolerable. 😀

@pimoore Sorry to hear you have it too. I’ve only recently become aware of that whole stress / tiredness / tinnitus connection. And I try to remember to tell my brain to listen to other things rather than the tinnitus. Sometimes I need external help, like listening to a podcast or watching a movie.

I feel you Miraz. Had it since I was a kid. Thought I was special and someone was trying to contact me Superman style - at 2:24. I read once that it was connected to the achilles tendon and goes up to the ear on a meridian - my achilles are super weird and tight so it made sense. I hope you get some relief. It's not fun when it's intense and I'm always grateful when it's in a quiet mood xxx

@hollyhoneychurch Thanks Holly. Luckily after that flare-up it's back to being simply constantly present and manageable. 😀
