Last night, while watching Discovery, I had a new experience of my own: shimmering at the top and right edges of my vision in both eyes. No pain, no nausea and I don’t think I’ve ever had a migraine. It cleared up in about 15 minutes, but was very disconcerting. Monitoring…

I’d go to the physician for that. Better getting it checked than worrying about it. I had similar problems before starting to use glasses.

Darn. I hope that's not the start of migraines and am sending good vibes. They can be really unsettling. I often feel pretty foggy the day after a visual aura like that.

@odd Thanks, yes, I'll make an appointment after our holiday weekend. Funnily enough I just had a full eye check with the optometrist a couple of weeks ago.

I experienced a few of these myself a few months ago. If it's what I experienced, it is called a scintillating scotoma.

did you see any light droplets float down the sides of your vision ? If so it could be something as simple as pulling on the back of your retina. Which is normal. Hope the checkup clarifies everything is ok.

@cygnoir Thanks. Mine was a lot like that middle picture of the grass. Interesting.

@Munish Hmmm, light droplets sounds interesting, but no. Thanks for the thoughts.

That definitely sounds like scintillating scotonoma. It is a migraine symptom. I get that, too. I used to get them without migraine pain, but now they sometimes precede migraine headaches. A neurologist can help you if it happens frequently.

The only time this happened to me was when I was utterly overwhelmed with responsibility and pressure - my body shut me down for my own sake. I took time for some honest introspection on the stresses and pressures in my life. It's also possible that the programme you were watching caused inner distress on some level.

@mjdescy Thanks for the info. So far it was a one-off. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

@a_seagull_story Hmmm. Sorry that happened to you that time, but glad to hear it was only once. While the folks closest to me have a heap of stress right now for various life-change reasons I'm actually in a very relaxed spot. I’ll think on it though.

Thank you but I'm glad it happened to me. It was an eye-opening experience that got me to where I am today. Fascinating to see it play out too. I remember that I didn't feel stressed at the time but looking back I clearly was. I was too good at coping - up to a point.
