It’s not just me and folks I know: How employers are freezing the over 50s out of the job market:
the “more suitable candidates” line was one older generations … despised. “It is challenging … to get rejected … with the platitude ‘we’ve found someone who’s a better fit’.”

@vasta And apart from the cost to older people it also means the workplaces are losing that kind of diversity and perspective. A lot of research shows that increasing diversity of all kinds has enormous benefits to workplaces.

@vasta In my country there are age discrimination laws, but I don’t think enough older people take advantage of the law. And, if the problem is with recruitment, I fear that’s even harder for older applicants. I agree with @miraz that diversity is a key success factor to any company. Business “leaders” that only hire younger people wants yes-people that work long hours, know about modern technology and don’t take maternity leave. BUT, older people take less sick-days, don’t have a hangover, and have much more life experience.

@odd @vasta We have age discrimination laws too, but of course unless an employer outright says “You're too old” it's impossible to prove anything.
