Watched the 2.25 hour Luc Besson movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The plot was a bit thin, the creativity, visuals and special effects pretty good. Besson also did the marvellous The Fifth Element. There were distinct resemblances in creativity.

that's unfortunate, plot wise, as he's done some pretty good movies before, i.e. Taken, Lucy, Leon, along with The Fifth Element of course.

@matpacker It was OK. I kept watching. Some whizzy chases and shoot-outs etc. Amazing (and sometimes bewildering) conceptions of aliens and the City.

@matpacker The Fifth Element is a family favorite. Panned by critics at the time, who seemed clueless that the movie is an action/comedy. Similarly for Con Air, which came out at about the same time – nowhere near as good as The Fifth Element, but still a good movie and very enjoyable one that critics did not seem to understand was supposed to be funny.

I always loved The Fifth Element. Makes me want to see Valerian now.
