When men won't even let women relieve themselves…
People without a safe place to go to the bathroom can die because of unsanitary conditions.
A 2016 study in India found that women who defecate in the open are twice as likely to be sexually assaulted by a stranger as those who have a toilet in their house.
An Indian woman told USAID/India, that men block the way to her community toilet, taunting and harassing women.
“They dress up as women, they get in line with us, they might touch us,” Dalal recalled Veer telling her. “Every few days someone is raped. On one side of the toilet is where we live and on the other side it’s jungle. They can pull us there.”

You have been doing a stellar job with these women-in-history/women-in-society link posts this past week 👍 Thanks.

@smokey Thanks so much Smokey. They just happen to have come to my attention. Meanwhile I'm slowly working on a little unannounced project with a special page on my blog: Remember these women.

Oh, nice! (You’ve got Helen Sharman on there twice, 4 and 12, btw.)
Here’s another one for you: Natalie Carbone Mangini, one of the first women nuclear chemists, who worked on the nuclear reactor for the USS Nautilus. (Her family’s restaurant, which closed last summer after 80 years, was a local institution and was always a special place for our family.) :-)

@smokey Many thanks Smokey. Page fixed and Natalie added! What an interesting story.

I know, right? I knew a little bit about her story from my great aunt, but it wasn’t until the restaurant closed and I was wallowing in my feelings, reading every page on its website, that I saw the link to that profile with the whole story.
It’s great to see how far we’ve come since the ridiculous obstacles overcome by all of these trailblazers, but still a long way to go, both in remembering their contributions and in ensuring true equality.

thank you for putting this together. Definitely bookmarking it for future reference.
