Aaargh, Candice Renoir quickly became one of my favourite shows on Acorn TV. Just finished Season 4 which ended with a major event! I know 8 seasons exist altogether. I’m so hoping we get to see the rest soon!
I think I’ve realised why my Netatmo rain gauge sometimes stops working. At this time of year we get little rain. When I go to investigate the rain gauge failing to work I have to clean out lots of spider webs. Once I do that, it works again. Ergo: spider webs clog it.
I’m so much enjoying Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery. Only a couple of episodes left to watch and I’m having trouble not just bingeing them!
Breakfast time for Sasha. 🐶
I’m especially fond of waterfalls and have just discovered: the New Zealand Waterfalls website. 🤩
Sasha 🐶 very obligingly naps in the car while I water the front lawn of our rental property. We could do with some decent rain! Maybe Thursday will bring some…
I enjoyed Murder at Sugar Rush Beach (Detectives Preddy & Harris Book 3) by Paula Lennon 📚:
Detective Preddy hoped for a quiet start to the new year. But there’s a murder at Sugar Rush Beach. A man is stabbed through the heart with an antique awl.
Looked out the front door and spotted these two young pheasants moseying about. 🐦 They scurried off when they saw me though.
I’ve been having a great Easter Friday, doing crosswords, watching videos, and during daylight, enjoying warm sun and fresh air. Also cooked Red lentil & carrot soup, which was kind of thin but nevertheless pleasing, and Homemade croutons, most of which were too burnt.
In case it’s useful for someone else — I wanted to be able to grab the title and URL of an article I was viewing in NetNewsWire and make a Markdown link for posting to Micro.Blog. I used Applescript for this:
tell application "NetNewsWire"
set myTitle to ""
set myURL to ""
set myLink to ""
set myTitle to title of current article
set myURL to url of current article
set myLink to "[" & myTitle & "](" & myURL & ")"
myLink
end tell

I activate it with Keyboard Maestro.
Thank you so much to the NNW team for supporting AppleScript.
I find recipes on the Internet then try out some of them. I’m forever converting measures of ingredients. This is useful and 🤯: Cooking Weights & measures, eg:
[English and New Zealand] flours are milled differently [so you have to change quantities of other ingredients].
Wow. This 10 minute video An Interview with a Professional Jump Roper is quite something. Sometimes Tori Boggs and her rope are both moving so fast I can’t even see the rope and her hands and feet are just a blur. Her strength and endurance are astonishing.
The pre-dawn sky is delightful. Look east to see Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Saturn. On the 24th the Moon will join in. Check Stellarium Web Online Star Map for IDs. Screenshot below from 24 April 2022 at Waikawa Beach (with Māori names added).

Whew. Finished watching Season 1 of Bel Air. That was quite an ending!
Side note: I can’t get over the absolute wealth on display. It’s staggering to think there are folks who could buy their 17 year old a top of the line brand new sports car, for example. 🤯
Update on Sasha 🐶. Her ultrasound today went well. Her liver looks like you’d expect for a 15 year old dog, with no evidence of tumours or anything. We’ll check liver enzymes in a month and if OK her dental surgery will go ahead, improving her likely quality of life.
This seems to be a busy week — it’s rushing by. One of my errands today though was to get this year’s flu shot. ✔︎
Sasha, 15 and a half 🐶, is on her way to the doggy dentist (ie the vet) this morning for tooth surgery so we took a precautionary photo…
I enjoy this author’s books and this was no exception: Striking Range: A Timber Creek K-9 Mystery by Margaret Mizushima 📚:
Deputy Mattie and her K-9 partner Robo are called to help investigate the death of a young woman found in a campground filled with elk hunters.
En Pointe. South Island Pied Oystercatcher. 🐦

We don’t often see starfish on our beach which doesn’t have the rockpools they may more usually be found in. This morning though I saw one (or maybe two — photos from different stages of my walk). They are the native Eleven-Armed Sea Star, Coscinasterias Calamaria.
