Four of the half dozen black swans at the lake this morning. 🐦

For Micro Monday I’d very much recommend @annahavron who writes intelligent, thoughtful articles about life, but who also posts cool photos of cats, trees, birds and other things.
We have 3 flavours of the food Sasha used to eat (recently). Last night and this morning she wouldn’t eat anything. Sigh. Finally I relented and added some wet food. At least she ate the wet food off the top. 🐶

Volume up! 0900 on a Sunday morning (yesterday): the sounds of silence. Listen for the birds. One of the things I love about where I live. What does it sound like where you live (or are at the moment)?
Many thanks to @cheri who pointed out this superb 33 minute mini-documentary on Angela Lansbury’s life and work:
Restricted Area Please Keep Out.

The lawn at the house we’re selling looked terrible a few days after someone we hired mowed it. This weather just makes grass grow! Today I took the motor mower down and trimmed it up for the Open Home. Hard work!

I nearly stepped on this clutch of 5 Oystercatcher eggs on the beach. The birds lay them in the sand near a bit of driftwood. I was actually looking for a suspected nest further away and almost didn’t see this. 🐦
Update, 07 November 2022: My friend Stephen discovered a Pied Stilt sitting on these eggs, rather than an Oystercatcher.

There’s spam and then there’s ham. Supermarket ham, to be precise:
Made in New Zealand from imported and local ingredients. Pork butchered in the following countries may have been used in the production of this product:
Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United States of America. These countries may not always reflect the country the animal has been raised in.

As it was set in Aotearoa New Zealand, I had high hopes for this book but was sadly disappointed. The Long Island Iced Tea Goodbye (Career Crisis Café Mystery Book 1) by Emily Selby was facile and riddled with careless typos and missing words. 📚

Sasha and I had differing ideas about why we went out just before bedtime. The outing did not include peeing after all. Since it did include sitting, I figured a glamour shoot would be rewarding. 🐶

Absolutely worth a listen — Hannah Gadsby on redefining comedy in A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard:
Hannah Gadsby is an Australian comedian … her multi award winning show, Nanette, pairs punchlines with personal revelations on gender, sexuality and childhood turmoil.

It definitely worked today. Whew!
Aw heck. S03E10 of My Life Is Murder seems to be the last. It was a darn good show. 📺
follows the adventures of fearless private investigator Alexa Crowe, who solves the most baffling crimes as well as coping with the frustrations of everyday life.

This book’s title made me dubious about whether I should bother but I was hooked from the first paragraph. It was an excellent read: Something Shady at Sunshine Haven (The Accidental Detective Book 1) by Kris Bock. I’ve bought book 2 already. 📚

A pair of Canada Geese on the lake. 🐦

Yay, my new glasses are ready to be collected and it so happens Tuesdays are the day I can make a trip to Wellington. With any luck I’ll have them by the end of the day. 😀
Here’s a new one on me: a blackmail scam that appeared in my RSS reader, courtesy of the email address Feedbin provides that I use for subscribing to newsletters.

The Woman King was impressive and powerful: textured, moving, absorbing, heart-breaking and thought-provoking, and inspired by true events. 🎥
the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s.

Thanks to @cheri who drew my attention to this wonderful rap video a couple of weeks ago: Rock Wren for Bird of the Year. And look who won! Bird of the Year: Pīwauwau/ rock wren crowned as 2022 winner. 🐦
