Enjoyed Gators and Garters (A Miss Fortune Mystery Book 18) by Jana Deleon. 📚 This story felt more like hanging out with old friends. Didn’t have quite the zing of previous books.
Ida Belle’s wedding to Walter—but the caterer goes missing
Maybe the series has run its course?
-
I enjoy the Timber Creek K-9 Mysteries by Margaret Mizushima. 📚 Burning Ridge really held my attention and was a great read.
On a rugged Colorado mountain ridge, Mattie Cobb and her police dog partner Robo make a grisly discovery—and become the targets of a ruthless killer.
-
I bought the Mysterious Women story bundle. I really enjoyed Paper Bullets by Annie Reed. Well written, easy to read, held my attention.
One simple favor for her ex plunges private investigator Abby Maxon into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
I’ll read more of hers. 📚
-
I’d read this before, but enjoyed it again. An alternate universe novella by Kristine Kathryn Rush: Recovering Apollo 8 📚:
Richard dedicates his life to recovering the lost capsule…causing him to question the meaning of life, the meaning of death and the heroisms in between.
-
Another excellent read from a favourite author: Judge Me When I’m Wrong (A Charlie Mack Motown Mystery Book 4) 📚
I wondered where this was going at first, but enjoyed the twist.
Charlie reports for jury duty and begins to unravel a disturbing plan to alter the outcome.
-
As expected, I very much enjoyed Catch Me When I’m Falling (A Charlie Mack Motown Mystery Book 3) 📚:
Someone is murdering the homeless in Detroit’s Cass Corridor… These horrific crimes wouldn’t require an investigation… except one of the bodies is Charlie’s mother’s friend.
-
I enjoyed From Beer to Eternity (A Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery) by Sherry Harris to ~80% through 📚:
A whip smart librarian’s fresh start comes with a tart twist in this perfect cocktail of murder and mystery—with a romance chaser.
Ending was rushed, confusing.
-
I very much enjoyed reading Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert. 📚
The book cover may be execrable, but the book itself was interesting and useful and stunningly readable. He has many many delightful turns of phrase.
Important fact: our brains lie to us all the time.
-
Yay, my favourite author, Kristine Rusch, has early copies of her next books on Kickstarter 📚:
Boss, main character of Diving Universe … finally! returns in Thieves.
Squishy sent out teams to destroy something the Empire calls stealth tech.
Two excellent books for US$10!
-
Somehow I’ve never read any works by New Zealand crime writer
Dame Ngaio Marsh (1895 – 1982) … known as one of the “Queens of Crime”… primarily for her character Inspector Roderick Alleyn, gentleman detective who works for the Metropolitan Police (London).
Rectifying… 📚
-
This year I’ve read and pretty much enjoyed the Nichelle Clarke Crime Thrillers, books 1 to 6, by Lyndee Walker. 📚 They had their moments though and I took a few breaks during reading. Each story was different but they felt a little ‘samey’. The shoes annoyed me heaps.
-
Next step on the Kindle: find the books I have read and remove from the device. Then finish or remove the books I’ve read only part of. Then start the unstarted books. Some are worthy books I theoretically want to read, but maybe I don’t really… 📚
-
Seems I bought Kindle ☛ Barbara Marr Mysteries Boxed Set back in January 2015 for $0.95, read part and stopped. Picked it up again, read a bit more, and have now deleted it. Not that interesting, not funny. Clearly just not to my taste. 📚
-
Hmmm, Love Notes: A Mimi Patterson/Gianna Maglione Mystery by Penny Mickelbury just wasn’t very good. Biggest flaw was lack of ‘breaks’ between two character stories. Long sentences too packed with ‘stuff’. Worthy notions poorly expressed. I won’t buy more by this author. 📚
-
Another excellent (re)read of a Cari Hunter book: A Quiet Death (Dark Peak Book 3). 📚 Very difficult subject matter: sex trafficking, but well-handled. Now I want to buy more by this author, but first I’d better read other books I already own but haven’t yet started. 📚
-
Another excellent (re)read: Cold to the Touch by Cari Hunter. 📚📚
how can she investigate a crime when no one cares about the victim? And how can she stop a killer who has no identity, no motive, and no conscience?
Turns out I really like this author.
-
Perspective matters so much.
Scared to Death had passages describing a female victim from the male captor’s perspective, including his sexual arousal. Very disturbing. Yuk!
No Good Reason had a female captive escaping, told from her point of view. That was empowering. 📚
-
No Good Reason (The Dark Peak Series Book 1) by Cari Hunter was a darn good mystery story. As it was apparently the first time I read it. I was surpised when my Kindle told me I’d already read it, but I did recall bits and pieces as I went along. Excellent read — both times. 📚
-
The Kindle book ‘Lethal Suds (Abigail Kinsman Mysteries Book 1)’ has taught me that every author needs someone to take a look at their book before publishing. Dumb characters, fairly dumb investigation process. Bored now. I ended up returning it and getting my $1 back. 📚
-
Last week I read The Crossing Places: The Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries 1. I was ambivalent about it as I read, but really didn’t get on with the ending. I very much disliked the several creepy characters. I won’t be buying more of this series. 📚
-
Hmmm, Scared to Death was a book I read to the end, but I’m not sure I’ll buy any others in the series. The murder mystery was fine, but some moderately graphic scenes of torture and terror of a young woman from the bad-guy’s point of view, aren’t something I like to read. 📚
-
I need to be careful what I read in the hours before bed. Scared to Death (Detective Kay Hunter murder mystery series Book 1) is a thriller with too many (for my taste) overly detailed descriptions of terror and torture of a young woman. I found a nice Cozy for night reading. 📚
-
I read Bullets and Beads (A Miss Fortune Mystery Book 17) by Jana DeLeon. 📚
Can Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie manage to evade the killers long enough to figure out why Dwight has returned from the dead?
Another very enjoyable read in the series, and a bit different too…
-
Miss Fortune Mysteries by Jana DeLeon. This series remains fresh and humorous, even though there are now 17 novels. CIA assassin in hiding, Fortune Redding, always manages to get in the middle of trouble in a tiny Louisiana town called Sinful.
Book recommendations challenge. 📚

I have a final Book recommendations challenge item coming tomorrow. 📚 But here’s a bonus author recommendation: Micro.Blog’s very own Cheri Baker, @Cheri .
Currently reading and enjoying: The Case of the Floating Funeral. 👍
Who Killed Morgan Picklewick?
