I enjoyed Lost to the Sea: A Cozy Mystery (Lost in Alaska Book 3) by Leigh Mayberry. Somehow the odd word choices and other ‘mistakes’ lend authenticity for me. I imagine the books are written by someone whose English differs from mine and it may not be their first language. 📚
-
Another Leigh Mayberry cozy enjoyed, with its endearingly odd language: A Killer Vacation: A Cozy Mystery (Lost in Alaska Book 2) 📚:
Paul Coleman wasn’t a nice guy, and the deeper Meghan digs, he might not even be one of the good guys. This is not the vacation she hoped for.
-
I enjoyed reading A Cold Day for Murder: A Cozy Mystery (Lost in Alaska Book 1) by Leigh Mayberry and am embarking on the next in series.
Numerous language oddities (missing words, wrong words) but with no info about the author I’m thinking maybe it’s an Alaskan thing? 📚
-
This was enjoyable 📚: Frightfully Fortune (Miss Fortune Mysteries Book 20)
a dead man gallops through the park on a black stallion and slides to a decapitated stop right in front of Swamp Team 3… another festival is about to be turned on its head
I think the series is fading.
-
I abandoned Coffin Cove (Coffin Cove Mysteries Book 1) by Jackie Elliott about half way through. It didn’t hang together well, had way too much exposition — just not really my thing. 📚
-
Excellent: A Question of Despair (DI Sarah Quinn Mystery Book 1) by Maureen Carter. It was well-written, held my interest so I read it pretty quickly, and had credible plot twists. I see some US reviewers don’t understand English as it’s spoken in the UK. I loved the language! 📚
-
I’ve just enjoyed another excellent Kat Voyzey Mystery from @cheri: Cutting the Track! Cheri’s craft is really maturing. If I was in a pickle I’d definitely want Kat Voyzey on my side. 📚
Elated at the prospect of a real missing persons case, Kat jumps in to track her down.

I had totally misremembered this photo taken in 2012 at Ha’atafu Resort in Tonga. This may be the best solution for avoiding screen glare and device shutdown while reading in the sun. 😀 📚
If travel ever happens again, Ha’atafu Resort is fabulous — a dozen guests, amazing food.
-
I had so much fun reading Semicolon: How a misunderstood punctuation mark can improve your writing, enrich your reading and even change your life by Cecelia Watson. I feel newly inspired with writing and reading. If you love language or reading or writing then read this book. 📚
-
I really enjoyed The Complete Merry & Neal Mysteries 6 gripping crime thrillers by Janice Frost. Well-written, they held my interest through all six. Some nice character development. Interesting to unravel the who’s and why’s. Another good British author. 📚
Only $1.14‼️
-
I loved this cozy mystery: The Case of the Lady in the Luggage by Cheri Baker, @Cheri 📚. After reading an advance copy I said:
what a fabulous read! I loved every minute of this and ended up neglecting other tasks to read it! 😀 This is the best Ellie Tappet yet!
Give it a go!

I was particularly touched yesterday to receive a very unexpected Amazon gift card from a generous person. I see several new books in the future of my new Kindle. 📚🤓
-
I’ve had my Kindle Paperwhite since January 2013 and it’s been wonderful. I use it heaps. Lately it’s felt a bit slow though and the pages don’t always turn right. I’ve lashed out and ordered the 10th generation 2018 version Paperwhite as a pressie for myself. 📚Waiting…

I really enjoyed reading Murder Among Friends by Janice Frost 📚:
The victim ran a group at university teaching men how to pick up women. Jane and Steph venture into a dark and dangerous world of misogyny.
Also: incels and problems all women face with unwanted male attention.
-
Woohoo, after I suggested our local Library buy this, the Library replied 📚:
… Beowulf: A New Translation by Maria Dahvana Headley. The library has reviewed your suggestion today and the item will be ordered as soon as possible.
I’ll get to read it after all. 🤓
-
It is an absolute mystery to me why I read Driftwood and Death (Innisstead Sands Cozy Mysteries Book 1) to the end and why I didn’t get my money back. Unbelievably silly! 📚
No author info to be found — a 10 year old perhaps?
-
Darn it, I finished reading Hanging Falls: A Timber Creek K-9 Mystery by Margaret Mizushima. 📚
An excellent read!
-
Sometimes I hate reading a really good book such as Hanging Falls: A Timber Creek K-9 Mystery by Margaret Mizushima. 📚
The more I read, the closer I am to finishing… Then what?
officer Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner Robo stumble upon a body floating at the edge of a lake.
-
Ambivalent about Murder The Boys (Detective Kate Power Mystery Book 1) by Judith Cutler 📚. The bad guy was obvious to the reader but not the Detective Sergeant who also seemed pretty wimpy for someone of her experience.
Boys are being abducted, abused, murdered on her patch
-
I enjoyed reading The Death of an Ambitious Woman (Chief Ruth Murphy Mysteries) by Barbara Ross 📚:
the murder of one ambitious woman forces another to decide what price she is willing to pay for success.
Darn: this was only recently published so no more yet in a series.
-
A looong book, and not for the page count: Corpse Way (The Yorkshire Dales Mysteries Book 1) by Susan Parry. 📚
Ground through 70% then page-flipped just to find out the explanation. Reminiscent of Famous Five.
Reminder to self: don’t buy more in this series. 👎🏼
-
Another excellent read: Find Me When I’m Lost (A Charlie Mack Motown Mystery Book 5) by Cheryl A. Head. 📚
Charlie Mack is hired by her ex-husband’s new wife when the ex, Franklin, has been charged with his brother-in-law’s murder.
-
I really enjoyed most of the stories in Voices Carry and Other Stories of Women and Crime by Dayle A. Dermatis. 📚
I didn’t finish the first story, but found the second, Bothering with the Details, specially appealing. I bought this as part of The Mysterious Women bundle.
-
Another excellent read: Tracking Game: A Timber Creek K-9 Mystery by Margaret Mizushima. 📚
Two brutal murders, a menacing band of poachers, and a fearsome creature on the loose in the mountains plunge Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner Robo into a sinister vortex.
-
I very much enjoyed Pretty Little Horses (an Abby Maxon mystery novel) by Annie Reed. 📚 Gripping ending kept me up late reading.
The copy editor needs a better eye though for quite a few trivial annoyances, such as missing words (esp. ‘the’) or ‘the' instead of ‘to’ etc.
