I don't often buy reference books, but this seemed like a must-have: Fungi of Aotearoa: A Curious Forager's Field Guide by Liv Sisson. π
I realised I can read it in Kindle on my Mac to enjoy all the colour photos.

In The Case of the Unlucky Gardener (Connie McKinnon Sailing Detective Cosy Mysteries Book 1) by Tina Mclachlan Brassington the characters bat chunks of dialog to and fro.
I finally realised it was more like exchanges of email: chat chat chat; reply reply reply.
Anyway, I liked it well enough. π

-
The book Little Girl Lost (Georgiana Germaine Book 1) by Cheryl Bradshaw just didn't sit right by me. π
The detective had some mysterious tragedy in her past that was a driving force but whose shadowy nature was just annoying. Also I found the detective's way of working didn't seem right.

Things just aren't going well for Peg, in relationships or work in Peril in Silver Nightshade (The Pegasus Quincy Mystery Series Book 4) by Lakota Grace. π

Bought back in September 2020; I must have read the first book then. Totally forgot what it was about. Read the second book this week and it ranks very high on the improbability scale. That aside, it was an OK read.
The Girl and the Ocean β Boxset by Alexandria Clarke. π

-
Reading Persons Unknown (Manon Bradshaw, Book 2) by Susie Steiner was how I imagine white water rafting would be. You dip a toe in the river not sure if you really want to engage, take a step, and then you're off, swept along irresistibly. What a read! π

-
Fire in Broken Water (The Pegasus Quincy Mystery Series Book 3) by Lakota Grace was a thoroughly good read from an author and in a setting I enjoy. π
feuding over water rights β¦ suspected drug dealing, and a blackmailer β¦ all lead Pegasus astray on her quest to find the killer

-
This was another gripping read from Tracy Clark: Runner (A Chicago Mystery Book 4). It's a great shame there are only 4 books in the series. It's a story worth telling. π
Chicago in the dead of winter can be brutal, especially when youβre scouring the frigid streets for a missing girl.

-
Took me a few starts but in the end I enjoyed Poodle Versus The Mob (Cottage Country Cozy Mysteries Book 2) by Anne Shillolo well enough. π
Zora Flynn, local newspaper publisher, and Rocco, her pampered poodle, are faced with a mini-crime wave. Not one but two victims have surfaced

-
I enjoyed reading Murder Among The Roses (Maybridge Murder Mysteries Book 1) by Liz Fielding. π
Abby is horrified to discover the bones of a baby buried under a rose bush. β¦ And then, just two days later, Abby finds Howard himself. Lying dead in the very same rose garden.

-
Started this book so long ago I’d forgotten what was going on. Picked it up and finished it with some enjoyment. The Country Inn Mystery (Jenny Starling Book 7) by Faith Martin. π
Jenny Starling is [cooking for] a Regency Extravaganza β¦ Leading actress β¦ turns up actually drowned in the pondβ¦

I was really hooked in to the 5 books in Detective Hillary Greene Books 6β10 box set by Faith Martin. π
Book 10 suggested an unwelcome change but I see there are 20 books in the series in total. Whew.
Well-written with interesting characters and plots. I’m a fan!

-
I quite enjoyed reading What You Don’t See (A Cass Raines Mystery Book 3) by Tracy Clark. π
Vonda Allen β¦ Everybody adores her. Except the people who work for her. And the person whoβs sending her flowers with death threats. β¦ Cass Raines β¦ isnβt keen on playing babysitter to a celebrity

-
Courtesy of Anne Shillolo’s newsletter I downloaded her Murder At Aspen Creek prequel novella for free. It was a quick and enjoyable read β I’m already a fan of her Port Alma Murder Mysteries. I’ll be reading the new series too. π

-
I’m going to stop reading A Space Girl from Earth (The Kyroibi Trilogy Book 1) by Christina McMullen. I’m not the target audience and I’m more annoyed by it than interested. π
not only is Ellie an alien, but β¦ the forbidden knowledge of a lost civilization is hidden deep within her genetic code.

-
The books in this series by Kris Bock are good reads: Someone Missing from Malapais Mountain (Book 4 in The Accidental Detective series). The mystery is interesting, the characters enjoyable. π

I was enthralled by the sample: this was an immediate buy and a fantastic read. You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner. π
Themes of identity, friendships and finding a place in the world, all while being Deaf.
Highly recommended.

Jana DeLeon somehow manages to keep her Miss Fortune books fresh and interesting. Clue Krewe (Miss Fortune Mysteries Book 24) was another very enjoyable read and a great adventure with Fortune, Gertie and Ida, while not forgoing explosions and chaos. π
