This sounds interesting. As a lover of words and language in general I'd be up to give this game a go. Scrabble: Mattel launches new version of game which is 'less competitive':
… a new version of Scrabble designed to be more collaborative and accessible … Scrabble Together, will also allow people to compete in teams.

Oh, I played Scrabble a lot with my parents when I was young (my wife and kids don't like board games at all, I have to live with that), and I never saw it as a very competitive game. I mean, it was, of course, but the main theme was always my mom trying to cheat with non-existent words. She was hilarious. It was always about the laughs, never about the competition.

As someone brought up on the classic version, and played as a family game and a way for our parents to teach us how to spell, I've always loved scrabble. And yes, while it can be competitive, it was more a teaching tool in our household.

@alexink Two games of Scrabble is what my 77-year old Mom charges for a visit to her home. She's a great cook and better company, so I don't mind paying the toll but there are SO MANY holiday pictures of my family sitting around the Scrabble table with her!

@eumrz That’s my memory as well, I wonder if the new one will catch on as the original.

I liked our laughs about all the pretend words we came up with. 😃 Have you tried some of Lex Friedman’s games?

@amerpie Ha! Ha! I love that, I'd be a regular visitor to your mums, then, just to be able to get a few games in with her. How wonderful.

@eumrz I'll sacrifice a higher score for clever or interesting words.

@odd I do all Lex's games every morning. I find the crossword very frustrating though because I can't set the behaviour and the blimmin cursor jumps around all over the place, colouring the squares and catching me out as it moves. I'd love to be able to load his crossword into Black Ink. // @danielpunkass

@odd who knows. I’d say that making an “easier” game as if your customers were dumb is not a good call, but what do I know. Let’s just have a laugh anyway.

My brain is ruptured when I try them, but everything is not for everyone. I think I’ll add the link to my link blog.

I also see Lex writes: “Crossword UI significantly better on mobile (March 26, 2024)I hired somebody to help me, and boy oh boy it was a great investment. Text entry and scroll bouncing annoyances on iOS while playing crosswords should now be a thing of the past. Here's hoping. Let me know if you experience any issues! This is true both for Minis and the full-size crosswords.”

I have a hankering to buy this version and see if I can coax my OH into playing.

Yes, I would give it a go too, as a different game, not a replacement. Thanks for pointing it out.

@odd I do them on my Mac, but should probably give my feedback about wanting settings.

I haven’t tried that yet. If you can’t understand it, then I certainly won’t.
