Excellent article: Love letter to the electric bike 🚴🏼♀️:
New Zealand imports of new e-bikes … are on track to outstrip imports of new cars. For every electric car on our roads, there are at least 5 electric two-wheelers. The EV revolution is happening under our noses.

I really enjoyed that article! I have toyed with the idea of getting an e-bike myself to make it easier to get to neighbouring suburbs. The article does nail the concerns though: traffic and car-centric street design…

@jayeless I love my electric bike. However town and supermarket are 15 Km away (in either direction) along the killing fields known as (our stretch of) State Highway 1. If there were some safe cycle route I'd happily bike there for errands etc.

@jayeless I'm pondering the idea of getting an ebike myself... but... the market is in transformation, lots of newcomers and I'd like to get an ebike for which I'll be able to find replacement parts 5 or 10 years from now. The other issue is the fact I'm living in a busy city where trafic lights would temper my ride too much...

@numericcitizen @jayeless almost pulled the trigger myself - but then Omicron arrived. Tsk tsk. Will play this by ear first before I even consider again. Thing is, most of the eBike innovations are not available in Asia. :(

@numericcitizen Hmmm, I'd think an established brand, at least for the important parts like motor and battery should help with the parts part of the equation. I'm not clear on the traffic light problem… How do you currently get around?

@rom Well, an ebike is an ebike, innovative or not… There's no law to say you have to keep a particular bike for the rest of your life. Just jump in and see how you get on…

mostly by metro when I needed to go to the downtown office... but we're fully remote now and probably forever...
