And here we have what seems to have become a daily power cut post. 🤨

@maique Power cuts were a feature of my youth too. When we first moved to the beach there were a lot of brief outages then they did a lot of work and it's rare now. To be fair, we’re in the middle of a horrible winter storm with lots of rain at the weekend and now gale force winds and freezing temps. Yesterday’s and today's cuts are likely severe weather related.

@maique I also remember power outages being a lot more frequent when I was a kid than now. These days when the power is out it's nearly always a scheduled outage for maintenance and we have warning… when I was a kid I remember a lot of outages for bad weather. Of course I live in an urban area… it seems like in the country (and even on the urban-rural fringe), "bad weather" outages still happen. The Dandenongs are going through a particularly nasty one right now after a bad storm (multiple weeks in length). I feel like our power network's weather-proofing is not exactly up to standard.

@jayeless @maique I think today's outage was because a tree came down nearby. Not surprising with the gales force winds the last couple of days!

@maique We got power back after 30 minutes thanks. 😀 We're OK because we have a woodburner and if necessary can cook on the top. I have a couple of small solar powered lanterns I keep for emergencies, plus various charged torches.

🔋Good to hear! Also, like that you are a sane “prepper” like myself. 🪵🚰🕯🧯🔥

@odd Yup! 😀 In Aotearoa New Zealand we could have an earthquake any time (and often do). In 2011 the Christchurch earthquake destroyed a lot of buildings and disrupted all kinds of infrastructure. That could be any of us any time. Then there are winter storms and whatnot. We often have gale force winds that could take out power too.

I remember Christchurch. I feel like it’s only been half the time since. It was terrible. I’ll put that memory with Utøya - same year. I think it would be hard for me to live in a fault area, but then again maybe one gets used to that too?
