I was having difficulties sending some texts on my new Mac. Turned out I needed to check the settings on my iPhone. I also logged out of Messages, restarted the app and logged in again. So many little details to sort out when setting up from scratch.
Alan Schussman Non-iMessage SMS stopped working on my MacBook months ago, and I can't figure it out. Now that it's missing, I realize how much I did use it.
Miraz Jordan @alans OK, check the settings on your phone for Messages Send & Receive and Text Message Forwarding. And try the Messages Prefs Logout, restart app, Log in and see if that helps at all. It was driving me nutty!
Alan Schussman Oh my gosh. Text Message Forwarding was off. I've had that feature on for years now. I did everything I could think of on the Mac, and it never occurred to me to find the setting on my phone when it stopped working. I have no idea how it was turned off.
Now I just need someone to send me an SMS. Thank you!!
Miraz Jordan @alans I found it was off for my new Mac and that was the problem. It never occurred to me to look there when I set up the new machine. A bit of a trap, eh!
David Johnson @alans I had a similar problem a few months back. I didn’t realize until someone said that they did not receive a message that I thought got through. Some settings seem to get reset when purchasing a new machine.
Miraz Jordan @crossingthethreshold @alans I’ve been setting up this machine from scratch rather than importing old data and settings. That probably contributed to my problem.
