I came out specifically to attend a yoga class and do other errands. I want to do yoga and need to. Today though it turns out the right thing for me to do is sit in a cafe drinking tea and eat chocolate cake. I need a break from ‘shoulds’.

I love days like those! My husband taught me early on one of his favorite philosphies: when other people offer advice, remind yourself that it's their should, not yours. "Don't should on me", he's always said, and it comes in handy time and again to remind myself of that.
A variant of this I learned a few years ago was from Ellen Burstyn, on a podcast called Death, Sex & Money. She has what she likes to call "should-less" days, and I absolutely love that idea.

@philly Ah, 'should-less' days. Brilliant! Today really lifted my spirits.
