Hooo. “New Zealand has been confirmed as the primary location for the $1.5 billion-production of The Lord of the Rings TV series.” Good news for our industry, I guess. Can we handle all the extra tourists? Bad: “an incredible opportunity for NZ to become Middle Earth forever”.

Congratulations. Amazon on your doorstep. I'm sure this will work out fine.

over all that! ...especially don't like seeing ngauruhoe constantly referred to as "mt doom" by tourists.

Just want until your government declares that all New Zealanders must grow hair on their feet!

@tones Exactly. Aotearoa has been colonised once already by us actual live European types. It doesn't need to be re-colonised by fictitious whatevers. What we need is for Māoritanga to be respected and honoured, and for our current real-life cultures to be respected.

@jsanchez Nor did I, and I don't actually care. I read LotR many years ago and enjoyed it. That was enough for me. Managed to sit through I think 1 movie. Found it waaaaay too long. I'm concerned at the notion of NZ becoming known as Middle Earth. It isn’t. And there are numerous, particularly cultural, reasons why it shouldn't be.
