Hawaiki Cable says the construction of its $500 million fibre-optic cable between New Zealand, Australia and the United States has passed the half-way mark, putting the new communications link on schedule to be completed by June.

The submarine cable-laying ship Responder docked in Auckland on Wednesday morning, prior to laying the New Zealand segment of the cable, which will land in New Zealand near Mangawhai Heads, between Auckland and Whangarei.
