The golden waning crescent moon just above the horizon caught my eye at 5.30 this morning. It drew me out, into the winter chill of the dark night.
I stood awe-struck and unable to return inside.
The Moon herself was just a sliver, but accompanied by Orion to her right, Taurus just above and to the left. Beside Taurus the Pleiades, the Nine Stars of Matariki, were a faint cloud.
And their companions, all the other stars of the universe, cloaked the sky.
In the air were songs of frogs and the constant roar of the sea.
I stood enchanted, until chilled by the night I was forced to retreat to the fire.
